Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art, combat sport, and a self defense system that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. The art was derived from the Japanese martial art of Kodokan judo (which itself is derived from Japanese Jujutsu) in the early 20th century. It teaches that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant by using leverage and proper technique – most notably by applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the other person. BJJ training can be used for sport grappling tournaments (gi and no-gi) and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition or self defense. At Disciple MMA Academy, we teach a comprehensive grappling system, incorporating elements of conditioning, along with techniques that span other martial arts such as Judo, Sambo, and Wrestling. Our competition-tested curriculum ensures that you will develop skills for self-defense, recreational sparring, and competition.

Boxing Fundamentals

Tenth Round Boxing has been established since 2007. Tenth Round has been providing years of Professional boxing training to several communities along the east coast. Tenth Round is providing Philly Boxing to the Northern Virginia area.  No Matter who you are or where you are from you can come to Tenth Round and learn the art of Striking for both Boxing and MMA.The Virginian community is our mission and priority at Tenth Round Boxing. Tenth Round Boxing and its trainers strive to help the community achieve their goals through the art of boxing & fitness. We embrace everyone young & old. We also nurture our young competitive fighters as well as the future competitors and non competitors learning the art of boxing and competition.

Judo

Judo meaning “gentle way”, is a modern Japanese martial art and combat sport, that originated in Japan in the late nineteenth century. One of its most prominent features is where the object is to throw or take one’s opponent to the ground. The goal can then be to immobilize or otherwise subdue one’s opponent with a grappling maneuver, or force the opponent to submit. Disciple Judo is a high quality judo curriculum designed with the committed judoka in mind. We combine a solid, traditional foundation of judo with modern, proven and scientific methods of human performance. In addition, we emphasize modern day, advanced competitive technique. Often, a few factors are common in leading to success in any endeavor: hard work, determination, commitment and a well thought out plan for success. We plan to provide our students with these tools and therefore phase our training program according to our yearly training cycles and goals.Along with tachi waza (standing techniques), we believe ne waza, or ground fighting techniques are an essential part of successful judo. We emphasize standing to ground transitions, ground to ground transitions along with submissions from dominant positions. We believe it is difficult to achieve great success in nage waza (throwing technique) without an underlying high level foundation of ne waza skill. In our view, judo extends far beyond the competitive mat and is more than just sport. A judoka who is trained as a competitive athlete is more prepared for life’s trials and difficulties. As a result, competition is not the pinnacle of judo study. Instead, we see it as a component of one’s overall study in preparation for life.As a Disciple team member, you will find yourself in a self-paced and challenging training environment with like minded, respectful friends who are there to help each other improve their judo skills. No experience is expected or required to begin, but a good attitude and committed spirit is essential. Whether you are completely new to judo or an international competitor with many years of experience, you will be welcomed!

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a full contact, combat sport that allows the use of both striking and grappling techniques, both standing and on the ground, including boxing, wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, kickboxing, Tae kwon do, Karate, Judo and other styles. We offer a competition proven blend of the world’s most effective martial arts styles, resulting in a well-rounded program of self defense, physical fitness, and personal well being. We strive to develop the next generation of martial artists and athletes through hard work, discipline, team work, and positive reinforcement. These proven techniques and training are guaranteed to get you in the best shape of your life while learning functional self-defense and gaining personal well being. Our MMA program has landed many fighters into the UFC, Bellator, Shogun, and CFFC promotions.

Muay Thai

Muay Thai (Thai: มวยไทย) is a combat sport from Thailand that uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques. Descended from Muay Boran, Muay Thai is Thailand’s national sport. The word muay derives from the Sanskrit mavya which means “to bind together”. Muay Thai is referred to as the “Art of Eight Limbs” or the “Science of Eight Limbs” because it makes use of punches, kicks, elbows and knee strikes, thus using eight “points of contact”, as opposed to “two points” (fists) in boxing and “four points” (hands and feet) used in other more regulated combat sports, such as kickboxing, boxing, and savate. A practitioner of Muay Thai is known as a nak muay. Western practitioners are sometimes called nak muay farang, meaning “foreign boxer.”Lotus Thai Boxing’s Program has launched many fighters into high level promotions, including Lion Fights and Glory. Lead by Ajarn Scott Howard, Kru Paul Sitcharing, and “The White Lotus” Himself, Carlos Lopez. LTB’s program has spread to multiple schools in Annandale, Winchester, Cincinnati, OH, and Martinsburg, WV. Check out a location closest to you!

Submission Wrestling

Submission Grappling (also known as submission fighting, submission wrestling, grappling, or simply as No-Gi), is a formula of competition and a general term describing the aspect of martial arts and combat sports that focus on clinch and ground fighting with the aim of obtaining a submission using submission holds. The term “submission grappling” usually refers only to the form of competition and training that does not use a “jacket”, “gi,” or “combat kimono,” often worn with belts that establish rank by color.
