As MMA continues to grow rapidly in popularity, more and more people are interested in what it is, what it entails, or what it looks like behind the scenes.Often, if you are a beginner you might learn about the world of mixed martial arts from Muay Thai videos on YouTube, MMA fights on TV, or even Judo competitions featured during the Olympics. There’s no doubt that watching professional martial artists who kick ass and take names can spark curiosity, and although you may want to be as experienced as they look or learn about a martial art in an MMA gym…it can be intimidating to say the least. We’re all worried about being judged because we are new to Muay Thai or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, so it becomes this world you don’t feel like you’re ready to cross into. You might think it might be too hard, or too demanding. It can be difficult to motivate yourself to try something completely new.
There is one thing that can help us get out of this mindset: get to know the people at your local MMA gym, and you start by contacting the gym with all your questions and concerns. Lay it all out!“Gymtimidation” can be real, but once you’re past it, you could end up meeting some of the best people you’ve ever met. The coaches at Disciple MMA for example, make it a point to introduce themselves before you step foot in the gym. They will call or email you easy-to-understand, basic information of the disciplines you’re interested in trying.
So to help you break out of the doubts that might be stopping you from learning something new, we’ve compiled a list of nice things people had to say about us.Read them, and then see what we’re really like by keeping tabs on what we’ve been up to on social media!

This isn’t some ploy to “get more followers” (although that wouldn’t hurt) but it’s the best way for us to show you who we are, because you still might be on the fence after all. You’ll learn, laugh, and maybe even cry. And if you’re itching to see the gym in action in person, you can come to 21250 Ridgetop Circle #100, Sterling VA, and attend our Muay Thai, BJJ, BJJ NoGi, or Judo classes.
This gym speaks for itself. Every single person walking through our doors will leave feeling like they’re part of a community. It’s just who Disciple MMA is.
This community is in every aspect of the word, a family. A badass, kind-hearted, forgiving, loving, caring…Family.
